Social Security August 2026 Payment Schedule: When to Expect Your Benefits
The Social Security Administration (SSA) will begin distributing August 2026 Social Security retirement benefits on Wednesday, August 12, with additional payment rounds scheduled later in the month according to beneficiaries’ birth dates.
Individuals who started receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 will receive their monthly payment earlier, on Monday, August 3.
August 2026 Social Security Payment Calendar
The SSA’s payment schedule for August 2026 is as follows:
- Monday, August 3: Beneficiaries who began receiving benefits before May 1997.
- Wednesday, August 12: Birth dates between the 1st and 10th.
- Wednesday, August 19: Birth dates between the 11th and 20th.
- Wednesday, August 26: Birth dates between the 21st and 31st.
SSI Recipients to Receive August Benefits Early
Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will receive their August 2026 payment on Friday, July 31, because August 1 falls on a Saturday.
The SSA has also confirmed that the November SSI payment will be issued early on Friday, October 30, while the remaining 2026 payments will follow the standard schedule.
Remaining 2026 SSI Payment Dates
- July 31: August payment
- September 1: September payment
- October 1: October payment
- October 30: November payment
- December 1: December payment
SSA Continues Transition to Electronic Payments
The SSA is moving toward fully electronic benefit payments, with the transition expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Another upcoming change affects Direct Express cardholders. Fifth Third Bank will replace Comerica Bank as the financial institution managing the Direct Express debit card program.
Who Qualifies for Supplemental Security Income (SSI)?
SSI provides monthly financial support to eligible individuals with limited income or resources, including:
- Adults aged 65 or older
- Individuals who are blind
- People with a qualifying disability
- Children with eligible disabilities
Generally, adults receiving SSI cannot earn more than $2,073 per month. Applications may be submitted online, at a local Social Security office, or by contacting the SSA.
What to Do If Your Social Security Payment Is Late
If your scheduled payment does not arrive on time, the SSA advises beneficiaries to wait three additional mailing days before contacting the agency.
Since most beneficiaries receive funds through direct deposit or other electronic methods, payments are typically delivered on schedule.
Social Security Full Retirement Age
Workers may begin claiming reduced retirement benefits at age 62, but waiting until full retirement age increases monthly payments.
Full retirement age is:
- 66 years and 8 months for those born in 1958
- 66 years and 10 months for those born in 1959
- 67 years for those born in 1960 or later
The SSA’s August 2026 payment schedule provides regular Social Security payments throughout the month, while SSI recipients will receive their August benefit early on July 31 due to the weekend calendar.
Beneficiaries should also prepare for the agency’s continued transition to electronic payments and the upcoming Direct Express banking change.
