Social Security Administration Will Not Send Benefit Payments in August—Here’s Why

As summer moves into its final weeks, many Social Security beneficiaries are expecting their usual August payments. However, Supplemental Security Income recipients in Texas received their August 2026 benefit earlier than the normal schedule.

Instead of receiving the payment during August, eligible SSI beneficiaries were scheduled to receive it on Friday, July 31, 2026.

Why There Is No SSI Payment During August 2026

The Social Security Administration generally sends SSI payments on the first day of every month.

When the first day of a month falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the payment is moved to the previous business day. Because August 1, 2026, falls on a Saturday, the August SSI payment was scheduled for Friday, July 31.

This does not mean recipients are receiving an extra benefit. The July 31 deposit is simply the regular August payment issued ahead of schedule.

Who Can Qualify for Supplemental Security Income?

Supplemental Security Income provides financial assistance to people with limited income and resources.

Eligibility may apply to adults and children who meet financial requirements and are:

  • Disabled
  • Blind
  • Age 65 or older

People aged 65 and above may qualify even if they do not have a disability.

The actual amount a beneficiary receives can depend on several factors, including income, financial resources, living arrangements and certain assets.

SSI Beneficiaries Received Two Payments in July

SSI recipients were scheduled to see two deposits during July 2026.

The regular July benefit was issued on Wednesday, July 1, while the second payment was scheduled for Friday, July 31. That second deposit represents the August benefit.

Recipients should therefore not expect another SSI payment during August.

A similar payment pattern is expected again in October, when beneficiaries are scheduled to receive their regular October benefit as well as an early payment intended for November.

Maximum SSI Benefit Amounts for 2026

The maximum federal SSI payment amounts for 2026 are:

Recipient CategoryMaximum Monthly Payment
Eligible individual$994
Eligible individual with an eligible spouse$1,491
Essential person$498

Individual payments may be lower than these maximum amounts depending on income, household circumstances, resources and other applicable financial factors.

What Texas SSI Recipients Should Remember

Texas SSI beneficiaries should treat the July 31 deposit as their August payment rather than as additional income.

Receiving two SSI deposits in July can appear like an extra payment, but beneficiaries need to account for the second deposit when budgeting for August expenses.

The August 2026 SSI payment was scheduled to arrive early on Friday, July 31, because August 1 falls on a Saturday.

Although recipients received two SSI deposits in July, the second payment is not a bonus or benefit increase. It is the regular August payment issued ahead of schedule under standard Social Security Administration payment rules.
