Friends Rally Around Thorold Woman Battling Oral Cancer
Friends and family of Angie Tripodi, a single mother of two teenagers, are coming together to support her as she undergoes treatment for oral cancer.
After learning that Tripodi would be unable to work while facing a difficult medical journey, those close to her decided to organize a fundraiser to help ease the financial pressure on her and her children.
Friends Step In to Help
Loretta Garofalo is one of the friends helping organize the event.
She has known Tripodi for years, having worked with her at Amici’s on Merrittville Highway, where Tripodi worked as a chef.
Garofalo said the two remained close friends after working together.
Now, she and a small group of supporters are hoping to make life a little easier for Tripodi during treatment.
Fundraiser Set for July 11
The fundraiser will take place on July 11 at Club Belvedere.
All proceeds will go directly to Tripodi to help support her and her children while she receives treatment at the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton.
Garofalo said Tripodi has a long recovery ahead, including therapy and radiation, and will not be able to work for quite some time.
Angie Tripodi Facing Second Cancer Battle
This is not Tripodi’s first experience with cancer.
In a written statement to ThoroldToday, she said she was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2016, a diagnosis that changed her life.
She successfully completed treatment and was approaching 10 years cancer-free before receiving a new diagnosis.
On April 12, Tripodi was diagnosed with large squamous cell carcinoma, a form of tongue cancer.
Surgery and Recovery
After the diagnosis, Tripodi underwent surgery to remove part of her tongue.
The procedure left her unable to eat normally or speak for about a month.
She also has significant scars on her neck, throat, arm and leg as a result of the surgery.
Tripodi said she is grateful for the people who have stepped forward to help her through this difficult time.
Fundraiser Will Help With Bills and Treatment Costs
Tripodi said the fundraiser will allow her to stay home, recover and focus on healing.
She said the support will also help reduce the stress of mounting bills, travel expenses and medication costs.
She added that the fundraiser would not have been possible without the love and support of her friends and family.
“Team Tripodi: Standing Strong for Angie”
The fundraiser is called “Team Tripodi: Standing Strong for Angie.”
Garofalo said the event reflects the support of family, friends and the wider Thorold community.
The evening will include a 50/50 draw, raffle, draw prizes, dinner, cash bar and DJ.
Garofalo said Club Belvedere staff, including servers, bartenders and the cook, are donating their time. Food and other event items have also been donated.
Ticket Details
Tickets for the fundraiser are $25 each and include dinner.
They will be available at the door.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and dinner begins at 7 p.m.
The Thorold community is rallying behind Angie Tripodi as she faces her second battle with cancer. The July 11 fundraiser at Club Belvedere will help support her and her children while she recovers and continues treatment at Juravinski Cancer Centre.
With friends, family and local volunteers donating their time and resources, the event aims to reduce financial stress and show Tripodi that she is not facing this fight alone.
