Benefit Payments Coming to Canadians in September and October 2026
As Canadians prepare for back-to-school costs and other fall expenses, several federal and provincial benefit payments are scheduled for September and October. These programs provide financial assistance to seniors, families, workers, people with disabilities and veterans.
Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security
Canada’s retirement income system includes the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS), the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) and the Allowance for the Survivor.
CPP and OAS Payment Amounts
For CPP, people aged 65 and older may qualify for a maximum monthly retirement payment of $1,433.
For OAS:
- People aged 65 to 74 with annual income below $148,451 may receive up to $707.67 per month.
- Seniors aged 75 and older with income below $154,196 may receive as much as $899.67 monthly.
OAS amounts are reviewed four times each year—in January, April, July and October—based on changes in the Consumer Price Index. If the cost of living falls, OAS payments do not decrease.

The federal government has introduced the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit to provide additional assistance with rising grocery prices and everyday living expenses.
One-Time Top-Up
Eligible Canadians will receive a lump-sum payment in June equal to a 50% increase in their annual GST/HST credit.
A family of four earning a net income of $40,000 could receive approximately $533, while a single person earning $25,000 annually could receive about $266.
Higher Ongoing Payments
Beginning in July 2026, payments will increase by 25% for five years and will continue quarterly in:
- July
- October
- January
- April
The federal government says the enhanced benefit could provide up to $1,890 this year for a family of four and up to $950 for a single person.
The program builds on the existing GST/HST credit, is indexed to inflation and is expected to benefit more than 12 million Canadians, including roughly 500,000 new recipients.
No separate application is required, but eligible Canadians must file their 2024 and 2025 income tax returns to receive payments.
Advanced Canada Workers Benefit
The Advanced Canada Workers Benefit (ACWB) provides refundable tax relief to eligible low-income workers and families. It consists of a basic benefit and a disability supplement.
Upcoming ACWB Payment

The maximum basic benefit is $1,428 for single individuals and $2,461 for families.
Single people with adjusted net income above $33,015 are not eligible for the basic amount. For families, the corresponding threshold is $43,212.
The disability supplement can provide up to $737 for singles and families. Eligibility ends when income exceeds applicable limits, including $37,932 for individuals and between $48,124 and $53,037 for families, depending on whether a spouse is also eligible.
Canada Disability Benefit
The Canada Disability Benefit provides income-tested financial assistance to eligible adults with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 64.
Recipients may receive up to $200 per month, or $2,400 annually, for the July 2025 to June 2026 benefit period, with future amounts adjusted for inflation.
Eligible recipients may also receive as much as 24 months of retroactive payments, although payments can only cover periods after June 2025.

Recipients may qualify for either Pain and Suffering Compensation, offered as a lifetime monthly payment or lump sum, or a Disability Pension, which may include additional financial support for dependants.
CPP Benefits for Students Under 25
Part-time students aged 18 to 24 may qualify for financial assistance when a parent is deceased or disabled and made sufficient contributions to the Canada Pension Plan.
Eligible part-time students can receive a flat monthly amount of $150.89 beginning in 2025. Specific payment dates have not yet been released.
The program complements existing assistance for eligible full-time students, who can receive $301.77 per month in 2025.
Part-time students must also satisfy minimum school attendance requirements to qualify.
September and October bring several important government benefit payments for Canadians, including CPP, OAS, CCB, disability benefits and provincial assistance.
Eligible recipients should keep track of scheduled dates, maintain up-to-date tax filings and review the eligibility requirements for each program to avoid missing financial support.
