Manitoba Man Arrested in Minnesota Following Alleged Winnipeg Abduction

A man who was allegedly abducted in Winnipeg and driven hundreds of kilometres into the United States has been found safe after escaping from his suspected captor in Minnesota, according to U.S. police.

Manitoba Man Allegedly Abducted in Winnipeg

North Dakota authorities said they were alerted on Saturday morning about an alleged abduction involving two men from Manitoba.

According to the North Dakota State Patrol, a 31-year-old Manitoba man was accused of abducting a 37-year-old man in Winnipeg before travelling south across the Canada-U.S. border and through multiple states.

Police Track Suspect Vehicle Across State Lines

Authorities were able to identify and follow the suspect’s vehicle using surveillance cameras positioned at several locations.

Investigators also relied on cellphone location information, communications with family and friends, and licence plate reader technology to determine the vehicle’s movements.

The vehicle was eventually located in Alexandria, Minnesota, approximately 460 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg.

Victim Escapes Into Nearby Store

Police said the 37-year-old victim managed to escape from the suspect while in Alexandria.

He ran into a nearby store, where he was able to reach safety. Local police then arrested the suspected abductor.

Authorities confirmed that the victim was safe following the incident.

Canadian and U.S. Agencies Worked Together

The North Dakota State Patrol said the investigation required extensive coordination between law enforcement agencies on both sides of the international border.

Local, state, federal and Canadian authorities worked together to locate the two men as the suspected abduction crossed international and state boundaries.

Police praised the cooperation between agencies, saying the cross-border response helped bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

Authorities have not released further details about what may have led to the alleged abduction or the circumstances surrounding the journey from Winnipeg into the United States.

Police said the case remains under investigation.

The alleged Winnipeg abduction ended safely after the 37-year-old victim escaped in Alexandria, Minnesota, and the suspect was arrested.

Authorities credited coordinated efforts between Canadian and U.S. law enforcement agencies, along with cellphone and licence plate tracking technology, for helping locate the men across hundreds of kilometres.
