Benefit Payments for Some Canadians Are Coming Soon — Here’s What to Expect
Some Canadian families will receive benefit payments this month, including the Canada Child Benefit (CCB). Here is what eligible households should know about the requirements, payment amounts and the upcoming August 2026 payment.
What Is the Canada Child Benefit?
The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a tax-free monthly payment designed to help eligible families manage the cost of raising children under 18 years of age.
To qualify, families must meet specific eligibility conditions set out for the benefit.
Who Is Eligible for the Canada Child Benefit?
To receive the CCB, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- You live with a child who is younger than 18.
- You are primarily responsible for the child’s care and upbringing.
- You are considered a resident of Canada for tax purposes.
- You or your spouse or common-law partner must have an eligible status in Canada.
- You must not be applying for a foster child who already receives the Children’s Special Allowance (CSA).
You or your spouse or common-law partner must also be one of the following:
- A Canadian citizen
- A permanent resident
- A protected person who has received a positive Notice of Decision from the Immigration and Refugee Board
- A qualifying temporary resident
- A person registered or entitled to be registered under the Indian Act
Families with more than one child must determine eligibility separately for each child. The amount received will also depend on the household’s adjusted family net income.
How Much Can Families Receive From the CCB in 2026?
In 2025, the maximum annual Canada Child Benefit payment was $7,997, calculated using a family’s 2024 adjusted family net income. Payments gradually decreased as family income increased.
For 2026, the Canada Revenue Agency has announced an indexation increase of 2%, compared with a 2.7% increase in 2025.
Indexation is linked to changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which tracks changes in prices by measuring the cost of a fixed group of goods and services over time.
CCB Payments for Children Under Age 6
In 2026, eligible families can receive a maximum base annual benefit of $8,157 for each child under six years old.
That works out to approximately $679.75 per month.
CCB Payments for Children Aged 6 to 17
For eligible children between the ages of six and 17, families can receive up to $6,883 annually.
This equals approximately $573.58 per month.
Actual payments may be lower depending on the family’s adjusted net income.
When Is the Next Canada Child Benefit Payment?
The next scheduled Canada Child Benefit payment is August 20, 2026.
Eligible families should receive their payment based on their individual entitlement and household income.
The Canada Child Benefit continues to provide tax-free financial assistance to eligible Canadian families raising children under 18.
In 2026, maximum annual benefits have increased to $8,157 for children under six and $6,883 for children aged six to 17. The next CCB payment is scheduled for August 20, 2026.
