Missing Alberta Man Believed to Have Drowned While Fishing in Northern Manitoba, RCMP Say
The RCMP are searching for a 60-year-old Alberta man who is believed to have drowned after his fishing equipment was discovered along the Nelson River in northern Manitoba.
James Redmond was reported missing at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday, according to an RCMP news release issued Tuesday. Investigators said he was last seen around 5:30 a.m. that morning.
Fishing Gear Found Near Kelsey Generating Station
Thompson Rural RCMP learned that Redmond, who owned a cabin in Kelsey, Manitoba, regularly fished from the shoreline of the Nelson River.
During a search of the area near his cabin, officers located his fishing gear roughly 200 metres upstream from the dam at the Kelsey Generating Station, where Redmond was employed.
Police believe this location may be where he entered the river.
Air and Water Search Efforts Underway
Search operations remain ongoing, with RCMP drones assisting from the air while a private diving company conducts underwater searches in an effort to locate Redmond.
Authorities have not released any additional information as the investigation continues.
