Five Raids Recover $137K Worth of Stolen Goods

Grey and Bruce counties experienced a significant rise in break-and-enter incidents and theft-related offences during the spring.

As the Grey Bruce Community Street Crime Unit investigated a series of property crimes across the region, officers identified two individuals believed to be connected to several incidents.

Stolen Truck, Tractor and Property Recovered

Less than a month ago, police located several individuals travelling along the 5th Line in Melancthon in a stolen pickup truck carrying allegedly stolen property. The vehicle was also towing a stolen tractor.

Two individuals were taken into custody without incident. A third person fled but was arrested shortly afterward.

Police Execute Five Search Warrants

This week, Community Street Crime Units from Grey Bruce, Dufferin, Huron Perth, Brant Oxford, Haldimand and Norfolk carried out five search warrants.

The operation was supported by officers from the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police and the West Grey Police Service.

Searches were conducted at:

  • A residence on Grey Road 4 near Jane Street in Ceylon
  • A residence on Grey Road 14 near Sideroad S in Grey Highlands
  • Two properties on Highway 6 near 18 Sideroad in West Grey
  • A property on 6th Line near 18 Sideroad in Melancthon

Charges Against 35-Year-Old Ceylon Man

A 35-year-old man from Ceylon was arrested and charged with:

  • Five counts of operating while prohibited
  • Two counts of fleeing from police
  • Dangerous operation
  • Failing to stop after an accident
  • Five counts of break and enter
  • Thirteen counts of possessing property obtained by crime valued over $5,000
  • Ten counts of theft over $5,000
  • Eight counts of motor vehicle theft
  • Six counts of unauthorized firearm possession
  • Six counts of knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm
  • Being an occupant of a vehicle while knowing a firearm was present
  • Possessing a firearm obtained through crime
  • Possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order
  • Three counts of failing to comply with a probation order
  • Three counts of failing to comply with a release order

He was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody by the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.

Charges Against 39-Year-Old Grey Highlands Man

A 39-year-old man from Grey Highlands faces the following charges:

  • Two counts of possessing property obtained by crime valued over $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Six counts of knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm
  • Being an occupant of a vehicle while knowing a firearm was present
  • Possessing a firearm obtained through crime
  • Four counts of failing to comply with a probation order
  • Failing to comply with a release order

He appeared for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound and was later released under a court order.

Charges Against 35-Year-Old West Grey Man

A 35-year-old man from West Grey was charged with:

  • Four counts of possessing property obtained by crime valued over $5,000
  • Two counts of possessing property obtained by crime valued under $5,000
  • Two counts of theft under $5,000
  • Two counts of theft over $5,000
  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Flight from police
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm
  • Being an occupant of a vehicle while knowing a firearm was present
  • Possessing a firearm obtained through crime

He was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound and subsequently released under a court order.

Charges Against 57-Year-Old Ceylon Man

A 57-year-old man from Ceylon faces:

  • Seven counts of possessing property obtained by crime valued over $5,000
  • Three counts of possessing property obtained by crime valued under $5,000
  • Five counts of unauthorized firearm possession
  • Five counts of knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm

He was released from custody and is expected to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on September 24.

Charges Against 54-Year-Old Ceylon Woman

A 54-year-old woman from Ceylon was charged with:

  • Seven counts of possessing property obtained by crime valued over $5,000
  • Three counts of possessing property obtained by crime valued under $5,000
  • Five counts of unauthorized firearm possession
  • Five counts of knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm

She was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on September 24.

Charges Against 35-Year-Old West Grey Woman

A 35-year-old woman from West Grey faces charges of:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm
  • Possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order

She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 8.

Stolen Property Being Returned to Owners

Investigators have identified most of the recovered property and have either returned it or are working to return it to its lawful owners.

Police say the investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to contact the Grey County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Anonymous information can be provided to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submitting a secure online tip. Information leading to a successful outcome may qualify for a cash reward of up to $2,000.

The coordinated investigation resulted in six arrests, numerous property crime and firearm-related charges, and the recovery of stolen vehicles and other belongings. Officers continue to investigate the incidents while working to return recovered property to its rightful owners.
